The legendary R&B singer Teddy Pendergrass passed away on January 13, 2010 after battling colon cancer. Teddy was 59.
He died at Bryn Mawr Hospital, which is located just outside of Philadelphia.
Teddy’s tremendous career included numerous platinum albums, and three decades of top hits such as, “Close the Door”, ”Joy” and “It Should’ve Been You”.
A five-time grammy nominated singer, Teddy didn’t let becoming a quadriplegic in a 1982 car accident stop his love for singing and pleasing his many fans.
Teddy’s career began when he sang the popular, “If You Don’t Know Me By Now”, as lead Singer for the Philadelphia soul group Harold Melvin & the Blue Notes.
This role lead him into his own solo career. In 1977, Teddy released his self-titled first album. Seven more albums followed on the Gamble & Huff’s Philadelphia International Records label. He then moved on to record with Warner Music’s Asylum and Elektra label.
Here’s Teddy on an episode of ‘that show’ in 1980 with his hit, “Love T.K.O.“
Rest in Peace “Teddy Bear”.

A great momery of Teddy. Attended his concert in 1978, at the Lake Charles Civic Center, in Lake Charles LA. I stood out in a crowd at the concert and Teddy Pendergrass waved at me. He says you, you, you. I will never forget that moment and will always treasure this memory. He made such sexy, beautiful music. May he rest in peace.

Teddy died on my birthday, Wednesday, January 13, 2010. He will be missed!
I have loved you for a very long time, and go loving you, for you are truly worthy of mad love. I met you one time in 1977, at a club. You were so down to earth. I asked you if I could kiss you and you said why not. I kissed you on the cheek and stayed up all night talking to my sister about you. She and the other girls were angry with me because I did not ask you to come and talk to them. I did not care then and care even less, now. You are missed, so dearly. May God forever keep you, and bless your family and your millions of fans. My four children know how much I love you, and now my four grandchildren can recognize the love I have for my “teddy.” love, your devoted fan, forever!!!!! Pearl
